Shadow of a Bird

Today's card was inspired by Michelle Zindorf''s "Golden."   She used brayering to get a more deep coloring.  I decided to sponge my background to bring out the "splatter" effect.  This card is going to be the Make & Take for a downline meeting tonight.
I recently got the bird punch, and have been playing with it constantly.  I love the way you can re-purpose the punched scrap as a mask for the shadow.  A simple "Miss You" on the inside is perfect for this card.

A Birthday Birdie (FMS63)

Today's card is for the Freshly Made Sketch challenge.
This sketch uses banners, which are very popular these days.  It also allows for creativity by offering the use of any shape for the main image.
This card uses the Labels Framelits for the main image shape and one of my favorite stamp sets.  If you are a return visitor to this site, then you know that I like to make my own designer paper.  I used the stamp in a repeating pattern for the background.
The main bird cage and sentiment were heat embossed with black embossing powder to add some texture.  Also, with the cage embossed, the ink for the bird does not stick and gives the impression that the bird is "inside" the cage.
I altered the sketch by placing one banner behind the image and one on top.  Banners are a perfect place for a sentiment.  A perfect Fall-inspired birthday card.

Technique Tuesday: Faux Patina

This week's technique is Faux Patina.  This technique gives the effect of old copper which has been weathered.  It is a simple technique that gives an amazing effect.
Ink up an embossing folder with Crumb Cake and run a sheet of white cardstock through to ink and emboss.
Sponge over the top with Marina Mist to give the blue tint that is typical of patina.
Next, sponge with Always Artichoke to deepen the color and give an aged look.
Finally, press a VersaMark pad randomly over the cardstock and add gold embossing powder.
Then heat with a heat tool to get the shine that would still be seen on copper.
Once you have the look you want, just trim the paper to size and add it to your card.  Try different embossing folders and silver or copper embossing powder for different looks.

Fab Friday 07

This week was a sketch challenge at Fab Friday was a simple design with a lot of potential for creativity (FabFri07).
I love the simplicity of the sketch and how versatile it is.  You can really let your imagination run wild with this one.  I use DSP on the bottom just like the sketch, but add a thicker ribbon embellishment and a larger focal point.
I used the Howlstooth and Scaringbone DSP from the Holiday Catalog.  The designs are great for more than just Halloween (and it is only available for another month).  I decided to stick to black and white for this card to give a more elegant feel.
I have also combined this with the SplitcoastStampers Try a New Technique Challenge this week, which is Glittery Embossing (TLC405).  The challenge was to dry emboss a background and then brayer with glitter.  I did not have glitter glue, so I brayered on multipurpose glue and then added some Stampin' Glitter.  I really love the way the technique works on this card.

Friday Focus: Create A Cupcake

Today's projects are focused around the Create A Cupcake stamp set.  However, not one cupcake will be seen here today.  For the above card, the cupcake wrapper was used as a balloon basket.  I also used the fun and beautiful sentiment from this set.
This card uses the wrappers for the window awning and the flowers for a small garden.  Markers make coloring the stamps quick and easy.
Here, one of the wrappers and the bow make a cute basket.  You can use the flowers, as done here, or the heart for the basket fillings.  This card can go with a large variety of sentiments.

World Hello Day

Today is World Hello Day!  Since I have company this week, and my craft room is also our guest room, I had to make all my cards for this week in one night.  So, most of my cards this week are CAS.  This one uses several patterns of DSP from the Storytime set for the overlapping banners.
Lacy and Lovely has the perfect sentiment. The font is beautiful and big enough to stand alone on this card.

So, tell your favorite someone HELLO today!
