PPA151: Valentine's Day Hearts

Today is all about Valentine's Day with hearts and pinks.  The layout was inspired by the Pals Paper Arts Sketch Challenge (PPA151).

This sketch could be used with any shape for the main images.  I will definitely be saving this one to use again for another theme.

To make the hearts I used the Hearts Framelits.  The large heart was cut out of Glimmer Paper and then inked with Primrose Petals to make it pink.  The smaller hearts was cut out and then placed in the Scallop Heart Embosslit to emboss tiny hearts on it.

The More Amore DSP has so many great patterns and colors for Valentine's Day.  It was hard to pick just one pattern to use.  This one has a small accent of  Pool Party, which was perfect for this card.

I chose to use the Chevron folder to keep the patterns consistent and give a clean and simple look to the card.  A sweet card for my sweetie... my daughter will be getting this one for V-day!

Color Challenge: Lucky Island Delight

This card was inspired by this week's color challenge on SplitcoastStampers.  I wanted to keep it clean and simple so the colors could pop.

The colors were Lucky Limeade, Island Indigo, and Daffodil Delight.  I love the bright colors.  A second option for this challenge was to use buttons.  Since I did not have any buttons in the right colors, I decided to make my own.

I punched out some circles and then added button holes.  In order to make them shiny (like some buttons are) they were coated with Crystal Effects.  It is hard to see in this photo, but you can see the shine in the larger photo at the beginning of the post.

One of my favorites from Sale-a-Bration right now is the Sycamore Street Ribbon and Button Pack.  The ribbon comes in three gorgeous colors (including Island Indigo) and makes a great accent.

Technique Tuesday: Faux Washi Tape

Today I am late getting my post done.  I am in charge of the yearbook for my son's elementary school and have a deadline at the end of the week that is eating up all my time.  So, I did not get a chance to try making Faux Washi Tape until this evening.

There are several different tutorials out there for making your own Washi Tape.  Some people stamp on first aid tape or use tissue paper to make theirs.  I decided to keep it simple and just use what I already had - cardstock.  You start by sponging a background color.

Then stamp an image on top.  I chose a large leaf and left a lot of open space.  Make sure you cover the whole page with the image.  You can stamp as many as you want and create as much "pattern" as you want. (Kind of like making your own DSP, which if you have been following me you know I love to do.)

After the pattern is complete, just cut your paper into strips.  You decide how wide you want them.  I use between 1/4" and 1/2" to mimic real Washi Tape.  Now that you have your "tape," it is time to play.

This design was inspired by Retro Sketches #48.  When I saw this sketch I knew it was perfect for this technique.  The strips behind the main image look just like tape.

For the accent it was hard to decide what to use.  Since the "tape" had a leaf pattern I wanted to stay with something organic.  This Boho Blossom with a pearl center turned out to be perfect.

The tape and the sketch combined make a beautiful card.  I love the organic colors and images.  What can you use your Faux Washi Tape to create?

PP130: Hello Baby

A family in our neighborhood recently added a new baby boy to their family.  This card is to congratulate them on their sweet baby.

The inspiration for this card comes from The Paper Players sketch challenge this week.  For this card, I turned the sketch sideways.

For the main image I used the new Oval Framelits and a cute boat stamp.  The boat seemed perfect for a baby boy.

You can't have a boat without some waves, so the DSP panel from the sketch was done with several layers of scallops to give the impression of water.

A sweet card for a sweet baby!

PCCCS26: Welcome Baby

When I saw the color challenge on Paper Craft Crew, I immediately thought baby card.  The blue, pink, and yellow reminds me of the baby section at the store.  I love that there are three blocks for the three colors.

The sketch offers a lot of layers to create a really interesting card.

For my card, I kept it clean and simple by using solid colors and no DSP.  The Little Additions stamp set has so many cute stamps that it was hard to choose which ones to use.

The inside of the card is just a repeat of the solid colors on the mobile.  A cute card to welcome a baby to the family.

Stamps: Little Additions (MDS #123135)

Love Birds

The color challenge on SplitcoastStampers this week is Soft Calypso Party (CC410).  The additional challenge was to make a non-traditional Valentine's Day card.
I saw this Gate Fold Latch Card and just knew I had to try the technique.  I used the Hearts Framelits to create the nested shapes.  Attach the frame to the left card front and the main image to the right card front.  Then when you open the card you get the "latch" for your gate fold.
I used MDS to print out the sentiment for the inside of the card.  Then I used the Simply Scored Border Plate to create the chevron pattern across the bottom to repeat the pattern from the front.
The love birds together in a cage makes the perfect front for this Valentine's Day card.  I stamped the cage in Soft Suede and then clear embossed it.  Since ink will not stick to the embossing, when I stamped the birds they look like they are in the cage (not just stamped on top).
The love birds and the non-traditional colors make this Valentine's Day card a wonderful surprise.
