CASology 50: Free Form MDS Card

My craft room is still a disaster due to my decision to reorganize, so here is another card with MDS.  This inspiration is not a sketch or a color challenge.

CASology has given a word as the inspiration for this weeks challenge.  What does "free" mean to you?  I chose to interpret this as a free form design with a freedom theme.

To keep this card Clean and Simple I used some splatter to color the background.  The sentiment and shoe prints as from the Daring Adventure Stamp Brush Set.  I love the possibilities that the word "adventure" offers and adventures always make me think of freedom. (Note: The black edge was added to make the card edges clear for this post, the actual card does not have this border.)

The interior of the card is a quote from Robert Frost.  Being bold can sometimes lead to great adventures.  For a busy wife, mom, and friend my chances usually involve signing up for a swap I am not sure how to accomplish or choosing to walk a trail I have never been on before.  All these adventures give me a feeling of freedom.  Free to take chances, free to try new things, and free to be myself.  What bold choice will you make today?

CTD248: Thoughts of Summer Card

I decided to make one of my paper cards as inspiration for a digital one.  Summer is here and we have been spending A LOT of time swimming.  For my card class this week we made a beach inspired card.  So, when I saw the colors on Color Throwdown this week, I knew they would make a great beach card too.

The Crumb Cake and Cool Carribean made me think of sand and water.  I did not have Cool Carribean, so I use Pool Party instead.

There is nothing like relaxing on a beach to set my imagination free.  A blanket and umbrella make this scene complete.  I also added some splatter to give texture to the sand. Since I could not find DSP that I really liked for the beach blanket I made my own with some free form lines.

The inside got a little touch of the beach, as well.  This is a great generic card to send to someone, just to let them know you are thinking of them during the busy summer months.  How do you like to spend your summer?

HSSSC162: Delightful Dozen Birthday

When I saw this sketch challenge I was struck by inspiration.  Unfortunately it has been a very busy day, so I decided to make a quick card in MDS rather than paper.  The idea is still the same though.

The sketch is from Hand Stamped Sentiments this week.  I love the simplicity of the design and was immediately drawn to those three small banners.

This birthday stamp from Delightful Dozen is so cute and great for coloring (with markers or the coloring tool).  I turned the sketch sideways in order to turn the banners into candles.  When I have more time I will definitely be turning this into a paper card to give at a birthday party this weekend.

Supplies: MDS (#130647). Delightful Dozen Stamp Brush Set (#127597), Cake & Ice Cream Stamp Brush Set (#130867), Bird Punch (#122131)
Colors: Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry, Cherry Cobbler, Old Olive, Soft Suede, Whisper White

FabFri20: Triple Ice Cream Card

This card was inspired by the New 2013-2015 In Colors.  This was for the Fab Friday Challenge this week (#20).

These have to be my favorite In Colors yet.  The yummy names are perfect for the delicious new shades.  I particularly love that all of the colors go so well together.

The ice cream cones were made with the Cupcake Punch and the Petite Pennant Punch.  The cones were embossed with the Square Lattice Folder to give them a waffle cone texture.

This card looks good enough to eat!  I think I may be taking the kids for ice cream after camp today.

FMS90: A Sunny Hello Card

I spent the day with my family riding roller coasters, eating food I will need to work off now, and sweating in the heat.  It was a great day!  I thought I would take some time this evening to relax (my aching feet) and play in a Freshly Made Sketches Challenge.
The inspiration for this card was the sketch above.  I do not often think of making square cards, but I love the symmetry of them.   So, I used MDS to make my square card.

I love that Crushed Curry is back again.  It is such a bright, sunny color and looks great with many natural colors  (like Old Olive and Early Espresso).  Most of the stamps and embellishments are from the Sweetly Nested Framabilities Set.  The heart tree is a two part stamp that is a great way to show your love to someone.

On the inside I used the same leaves and embellishment as the front.  My daughter's daycare is doing Mail Days once a week during the summer.  Mail Days are when parents can leave notes and letters in the morning to be delivered to the children in the afternoon at Mail Time.  This card will be perfect to send to her and let her know that I am thinking about her.

Technique Tuesday: One Sheet Bag Tutorial

My son's class had a party on the last day of school.  As a "Congratulations" to all the students for getting through the year, I decided to make little gift bags for each of them.

To make the bag, simply start with one 8-1/2" x 11" piece of cardstock.  Score the paper 2-1/2" from each long side and 4-1/2" from each short side.

You will then fold all the score lines to make the next part a little easier.  Fold in the long side and then bring the first horizontal score line to the outside edge to create the diagonal.  Press the diagonal fold with a bone folder to make it sharp.

Optional: You do not have to, but I chose to cut out the corners to reduce the thickness of the tops of the bag.  Depending on what you are using the bag for, you may want to skip this step.

Fold and adhere all the diagonals to the inside.  You will end up with a bag and two tall sides.  If you do not cut the corners out, you will have three layers of cardstock on the tall sides.  The original directions for this on SplitcoastStampers just tied a ribbon around the top to close the bag.  Again, it depends on what you are putting in the bag.  All that is left to do is decorate.

Since I knew I was putting a couple of tall items in my bags, I folded down one of the tall sides and punched two holes (one small for a glow stick, one 1/2" for a pencil).

For the decoration, I wanted to make a tiger paw (since this is the mascot for our school district).  I was making 21 of these bags, so I had to punch a few items first.  I used the Hearts Framelits for the base of the paw, the wing of the bird punch for the "claws" and an embossed vanilla background.  The tiny hearts were punched with the Owl Builder Punch.

Here is the final paw.  I had seen dog prints done with hearts and ovals, but I think the wing is great for tiger or bear claws.  I originally put it on a solid piece of cardstock, but thought the chevron folder looked a little like claw marks too.

I stamped the sentiment and mounted everything on More Mustard.  The school colors are maroon and gold, so the Red Riding Hood and More Mustard are pretty close.

Here is the finished box.  I think the heart is the perfect touch to let the kids know how special they are.  The boxes were filled with pencils, glow sticks, bouncy balls, playdough, and a few pieces of candy.

All of the kids really enjoyed the boxes (particularly the glow sticks).  I am so glad that my son's first year of "real school" was so positive and fun.  We are both excited to see what happens next Fall.

3D Thursday: Altered Can

A few weeks a ago I posted a card from Mojo Monday and made a matching canister.  You can see the original post here.

The canister and card were made as an end-of-the-year gift set for my son's teacher.  Since he has two teachers, I had to make another set.  This design is easy to change, just choose a DSP and your favorite solid color from that paper.

This set is monochromatic and has a simpler, cleaner look that fits with the teacher who received it.  I used the same Everyday Elegance DSP and similar ribbon.  Both canisters were filled with Gooey Butter Cookies (which are some of my favorite cookies).  Check back on Tuesday to see the gifts I made for the kiddos!
