Bubble Fun!!!

My daughter's birthday is this Tuesday, September 11th.  We had her party on Saturday with a Bubble theme.  I had lots of bubble wands, as well as several homemade bubble makers.  We made a huge batch of "Bubble Juice" and let the kids have fun making bubbles.  I made favor bags to fit the theme.

One of the great things about clear mount stamps is the extra pieces that are left when you remove them from the rubber.  The Daydream Medallion set has some circles from inside the stamp designs.  That is what I used to make my own DSP.

I used the largest circle to make the pink spots....

I used the small circle for the blue dots...

And I used the ring for the darker circles.

Once the paper was stamped, I cut the bag out with the Fancy Favor die.  One of the advantages to making your own DSP is that you can alter the pattern if you don't like it.  This bag was missing some purple, so I added more.

You can see the difference between the two photos.  Just fold the bag up and you have a great favor bag for a bubble themed party.  I filled them with bubbles, wands, clear bouncy balls, etc. to match the theme.

Friday Focus: Comfort Cafe Designer Series Paper

This Friday we are taking a look at the Comfort Cafe DSP.  On Monday, I posted this card for a challenge:

The chevron pattern is from the Comfort Cafe DSP.  One of my favorite ways to show off DSP is is a "quilted" card.  By making triangles from all the patterns you can put together a "quilt."

If you glue the triangles to a piece of paper and then emboss it with the Square Lattice Folder, the look mimics fabric.

This DSP has several patterns that coordinate beautifully.  You can use each pattern as a single element on a card.

One of the things I love most about using DSP is that it adds a lot of interest to my cards very quickly.  Plus, it takes the guess work out of choosing colors.  Just use the coordinating colors (which are listed for you in the catalog).

3D Thursday: Stationary Box

First Thursday of each month will be 3D Thursday, which will feature a 3D object that you can recreate.

Today, I am featuring a Stationary Box.  The entire set was made with one of the flowers from the Mixed Bunch stamp set.  Using the stamp set to make your own DSP makes it easy to coordinate the set. 

 

This box holds 4 gift tags, 4 3x3 cards, 4 standard size cards, and a matching pen.  There is also a small pocket for stamps.  There are two of each design for the standard size cards with envelopes.  These cards have a generic sentiment so they can be used for any occasion.  

There are four 3x3 birthday cards with envelopes, as well.  I made these smaller cards as birthday cards so they could be attached to a gift.

MOJO257 Sketch Challenge

My first submission to a Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge.  This card was based on a very intricate sketch with many layers.  I could not find a paper that I like to go with my colors, so I made one.  I simply sponged Wild Wasabi and Marina Mist onto Whisper White cardstock and used that for my background.

I decided to play around with this sketch a bit and started by going a little crazy with my embossing folders.  I love the way all the textures add depth to the card.

Then I though I would use some DSP that I have been having trouble figuring out what to do with.  It turned out to be super cute with this sketch.

I removed some of the elements of the sketch, but it still has a similar look.  I think I will be giving this to my daughter's teacher when she leaves her current school.

While I was playing I decided to use this sketch to also make a card for my mother-in-law's birthday coming up next week.

This one uses all the elements of the sketch.  I thought the small cupcake went with the background DSP... and who doesn't love cupcakes for their birthday!

Technique Tuesday: Emboss Resist

Emboss Resist: emboss on light cardstock with matching powder and then use a darker ink to bring out the images and create a wonderful effect.

This card uses one color of ink to pull the images forward.  I embossed white on white and then rubbed over it with a Baja Breeze inked sponge.  I used this technique both for the background and the heart.

I got this stamp set from attending Stampin' Up! Convention 2012.  I have not had a chance to play with it much so this was a lot of fun for me.  The layout is based on a sketch challenge at iSpy Sketches.

You can also use multiple colors to create a soft effect.  This card has medallions (from another set I got at Convention) embossed on it and then rubbed with three different colors.  A simple design with a unique look.

First Fab Friday Challenge

Here is my take on it.  The Aviary stamp set is absolutely adorable and one of my all time favorites.  I incorporated all the colors from the Designer Series Paper to make the other elements.
