Friday Focus: Little Additions

Today's projects all use the Little Additions Stamp Set.  This is a super cute set and the first project (above) uses it in the most obvious way... for a baby.  This would be a cute tag to attach to a baby shower gift.  All of the stamps used are from the focus set.

This is an 8x8 scrapbook page.  One of the great things about MDS is being able to resize the stamps to fit your needs.  Here the shelf and frames were expanded to hold actual photos.  These are pictures of my daughter (and husband).  The photo with daddy and with the flower were taken when she was less than a day old, and the other when she was only a couple of weeks old. (I still have a habit of taking pictures of my kids while they sleep).

Baby projects are not all this set can by used for though.  The furniture would make a great house warming card or, as you can see here, a get well card.  The chair looks so comfy, you could just curl up with a blanket and relax.  This is a great stamp set for so many projects.

3D Thursday: Birdhouse Holder

Since I was on vacation last week, I decided to make this Thursday the 3D Thursday project.  This is a Birdhouse Holder that I saw on Kards by Kadie.  Her directions are listed as follows:

The measurements for this birdhouse are:

Base Box = 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" Whisper White

Score on the 5-1/2" side at 1" and 4"

Score on thr 8-1/2" side at 3", 4", 7" and 8"

DSP for Siding Your House:

Qty 2 pcs of 3"x2" DSP

Roof: 1-1/2" x 5" Cardstock and you will score this in half to create your roof.

I started with these measurements and worked out the rest for myself.

The base of the Birdhouse looks like this.  I scored the cardstock exactly as the directions stated and then cut the appropriate lines.  I am not sure if this is how it was originally done, but it worked out for me.

To keep the roof attached I left one of the "flaps" on and then glued the roof to it.  This way the roof does not completely come off.

Then it was just a matter of decorating.  I thought the Birdhouse should have a door so a sponged a small circle and then added the bird.

A piece of ribbon holds the roof closed when it is not being used.  You can see that this Birdhouse could hold about 3 standard size Post-it note pads.  You could, of course, fill it with anything that you wanted.

Here is what it looks like closed.  I love that the project is so adorable and useful.  It would be perfect sitting on any desk and could hide a variety of necessary supplies.  I made these for my son's teachers for Valentine's Day.  I wanted to give them something that they could use throughout the year.

I hope that they feel the love that went into making these gifts and get a lot of use out of them in the future.

Technique Tuesday: Side Step Card

We have some friends who are getting married in a couple of weeks and I wanted to make a special card for them.  That is when I saw this Side Step Card on SplitcoastStampers Tutorials.

The basic card looks like this once you get it folded.  You will have one large panel and three side panels to decorate.

The background is Baja Breeze with a polka dot pattern.  It is hard to see in the photo, but all the panels were rubbed with Illuminate ink to give it a subtle shimmer.

The skirt was made with the new Creped Filter Paper.  I also rubbed this with Illuminate ink to give it a soft shimmer.  The top was made with Glimmer Paper.  A few pearls were added for a necklace and belt.  The bottom layers were edged with Dazzling Details.

The dress was added to the large panel as a focal point of the card.  I love the way it hangs over the top and edges and seems to stand out.

The right side of the card is decorated with traditional wedding items.  The cake was embellished with more pearls.  The flowers were spread out to add consistency across all the layers.

The flowers are rolled roses made from circles and mums made from fringed strips.  The white leaves make a large impact and set the flowers off from the background.

The overall card has plenty of wedding details and works with the colors of my friend's upcoming wedding.  I hope that they enjoy this card and have many years a happiness ahead of them.

Valentine's Day Treats

Being on vacation last week, I ended up busier that I thought I would be and did not have time to craft.  But, this week I am back at it.  Starting with my Valentine's Day Treats for my children.

These cute pencil and lollipop treats are for my daughter's preschool class.  They are easy for her to pass out and just adorable.

I found these multicolored pencils in packs of 8 in the dollar section of a local store.  I think they are perfect for little hands that are learning to write.

For my son's Pre-K class I decided on some simple hearts.  I printed his name on the labels, but removed them for the photos.  He does not quite have the stamina yet to sign his name 20 times in a row (and they had to be there today).

I had quite a supply of these lollipops lying around, so they were the inspiration for this craft.  I am sure the kids will be more excited about the candy than the craft. :)

I also had some of these rolls of candy and decided to turn them into Cupid's Arrows.  This is a very quick and easy Valentine to make and great for kids, teachers, or anyone.

I made several of these in a matter of minutes and will probably include them in the teacher gifts (which I will be posting in a couple of days).  You can make a wide variety of treats with just a few supplies and a little imagination.

Fab Friday 11: Celebrate Sentimental

Today's card was done in MDS2 because I am on vacation an not at home with my papercrafting supplies.  The inspiration came from the Fab Friday Sketch #11. 

Another great sketch from the Fab Friday crew.  I had so many ideas to use this sketch, but decided to use a Sale-a-bration set that has caught my eye recently.

The card is supposed to be on a white base, but I had to add a black border to make it stand out here on the blog.  The background is some of that gorgeous Sycamore Street DSP.  The stamps are from Feeling Sentimental, which I was not sure how to use the first time I saw it.  I have seen several beautiful projects with it and it has definitely grown on me.

PPA151: Valentine's Day Hearts

Today is all about Valentine's Day with hearts and pinks.  The layout was inspired by the Pals Paper Arts Sketch Challenge (PPA151).

This sketch could be used with any shape for the main images.  I will definitely be saving this one to use again for another theme.

To make the hearts I used the Hearts Framelits.  The large heart was cut out of Glimmer Paper and then inked with Primrose Petals to make it pink.  The smaller hearts was cut out and then placed in the Scallop Heart Embosslit to emboss tiny hearts on it.

The More Amore DSP has so many great patterns and colors for Valentine's Day.  It was hard to pick just one pattern to use.  This one has a small accent of  Pool Party, which was perfect for this card.

I chose to use the Chevron folder to keep the patterns consistent and give a clean and simple look to the card.  A sweet card for my sweetie... my daughter will be getting this one for V-day!
