Technique Tuesday: Color Blocking

Color Blocking refers to using blocks of different colors on a project.  There are several ways to do this.  For the first example, there are three blocks of colors cardstock.
The colors for this card were inspired by The Paper Players Challenge (PP121) for this card.
Each block has been embossed with the same image.  Repetition can have quite an impact on a card, particularly when the color is in stark contrast to the background.    A small bit of taffeta ribbon on the corners makes a beautiful simple card.
The other option for Color Blocking is to use ink.  Many people use acrylic blocks on the stamp pad and then stamp them on paper.  Here the squares are masked off and sponged with ink.
Adding the bold black images on top of the squares give a wonderful punch.  This simple card is a single layer image and perfect for the mail (since there is no additional thickness that could cause extra postage).

  1. Wow....love these both! I remember that SU used to have a set of stamps in shapes...square, circle, triangle....and I LOVED them! Your second card reminds me of that set...love the leaf! And thanks for playing with the Paper Players this week!

    1. I used a square punch to make this mask, but you could also use a circle or pennant punch to make other shapes. TFL!
