Technique Tuesday: Direct to Paper

Direct to Paper refers to any technique were a stamp pad is applied directly to the paper.  The card above is a direct CASE (Copy and Share Everything) from Michelle Zindorf, who makes some of the most beautiful cards I have ever seen.
I changed a few elements from the original inspiration.  I used a different stamp set and a different embossing folder, but the Direct to Paper element is exactly the same.
Once I tried the technique, it was time to start playing on my own.  After a little trial and error, this is the card I came up with.  The water is done with Direct to Paper, and the sunset is sponged.
By masking the sun before sponging, it created a halo effect that makes the sun stand out.  Also, to get the dark hills I used Basic Gray and then went back over that with Basic Black, which seems to give a more even coloring.
This is the card I posted yesterday.  Here, I embossed the Whisper White cardstock and then rubbed the Island Indigo ink over it (Direct to Paper).  I used the same technique on the Polka Dots with the Illuminate Glimmer Watermark stamp pad.  It is hard to see in the photo, but it adds a nice shimmer to the background.

Overall, this was a really fun technique and I will definitely be playing with it some more.
