Technique Tuesday: Masked Spritzing Tutorial

The technique being shown today is the Masked Spritzing.  Masking is simply obscuring or blocking part of the card from being inked.  In this case, the inking is done by spritzing.

For this first card, I made a mask by punching a butterfly image out of some scrap cardstock.  I made a Spritzing Box by cutting open an old cardboard box.  I also use a piece of cardstock with a center cut out, to avoid spritzing on card edges.  I often use retired colored cardstock for masks and templates.

You can put anywhere from 20-30 drops of reinker in a spritzer with some rubbing alcohol, depending on how dark you want the color.  The alcohol dries quickly and mixes easily with the ink.  Once you have the ink mixed, just start spraying.  Sprtizing gives a great texture to the image that is different from stamping.  There is also a light misting (not easy to see in the photo) over the entire card for added effect.

I simply moved the mask and spritzed again to get the repeating images.  A few rhinestones and a sentiment make a beautiful, CAS card.

Punches aren't the only way to make masks.  For this card I used some Drywall Joint Tape to create an interesting background.

You can find Drywall Joint Tape at any hardware store.  It has a wonderful grid pattern and light adhesive (so it does not tear your cardstock).  Once I had the tape in place, I spritzed it with a medium mix of alcohol and Marina Mist reinker.

A fun sentiment and a ribbon were all that was needed to finish this card.  I wanted to keep the cards simple so it really showcased the technique.  I love the texture that spritzing gives.  I think next time I may have to combine this technique with the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set for a really great background.
