Technique Tuesday: Shaving Cream

The technique this week is Shaving Cream.  This creates a spectacular marbled effect that can be used in a number of ways.

1. Start by laying a smooth layer of shaving cream down (you can use a skewer to smooth it out) and then add a few drops of re-inker on top.
2.  Use your skewer to stir the drop around, just enough to create the marble effect but not mix the colors completely.
3. Next, lay a piece of paper on top of the shaving cream and then pull it straight up.  Rub the excess shaving cream off with a paper towel in a circular motion and then let the paper dry.

You now have a marbled page that can be used any way you can think of to use it.

For the first example, the marbled paper was used as the focus of the card.  A small sentiment and some ribbon finish it off.  This card is simple to make, but makes a huge impact.

The marbling can also be used as a background for other images.  The flowers were embossed in black and then cut out.  The Secret Garden bundle from the Spring Catalog makes this so easy with Framelits and matching stamps.  The leaves were cut with Framelits and left clean and simple to show off the marble effect.

The marbled paper was also used to create the matching envelope.  This card is being used as one of my Pay It Forward cards.  I am sending cards to five random people this year without any reason.  Fun to make and fun to give!
