Technique Tuesday: Bargello

Bargello is a technique borrowed from needlepoint.  It creates a wonderful background.  You can find a tutorial in SplitcoastStampers.
This is one of my favorite stamp sets.  I love all the sentiments.   I thought this one would be cute with a monochromatic yellow theme.
To start you need to choose 2-4 different patterned papers (and yes, I made my own DSP again for one of these).  I chose a monochromatic theme, but you could use any color combination you like.
Adhere the strips in order to a piece of paper with edges even and touching.  I adhere my strips to a piece of printer paper.  Since I was going to cut it with a Framelit I did not want it to get too thick.
Then cut across each strip to make the patterned pieces seen above.  I used my Stampin' Trimmer because it has a measuring guide on the right side that allows you to cut any size under an inch easily and quickly. You can cut them all the same width (as I have done here) or vary the widths for a more interesting result.
You can make waves, pyramids, or just alternate one up and one down.  Play with the strips until you like the pattern and then adhere them to another piece of printer paper.
One they are all adhered, you are ready to use it for your background.  You can trim the edges and use it as a rectangle or you can cut a shape using a die cutting machine.
I made mine into an oval to show more pattern than a circle but keep with my sunshine theme.
A mat and a few embellishments and the card is ready to go.
A lot of interest for such a clean and simple card.  So, get out that patterned paper and see what you can do!
